What we build
Single and multi-level decks in Trex, TimberTech, and Fiberon, framed on ground-contact lumber with joist tape and flashed ledgers, so the deck outlasts the boards' warranty.
Keep a sound frame, lose the gray splintered boards. New composite boards and hidden fasteners on your existing joists, usually in two to three days.
Black aluminum, cable, and composite railing systems, code-height guards, closed-riser stairs with lit treads, and replacement of wobbly wood rails.
Gabled or shed roofs tied into your existing roofline, tongue-and-groove ceilings, fans, and screens, for shade in July and a dry deck in a March downpour.
Same frame, new deck
When the treated-pine frame under an old deck is still dry and straight, you keep it. We strip the gray boards, tape every joist, add the blocking composite needs, and lay new boards with hidden clips, then swap the loose wood rail for black aluminum. Typically about a third of the price of a full rebuild.

Built for East Tennessee
Knoxville sits in a humid valley with heavy red clay under it. A deck here has to shrug off standing water, shifting soil, termites, and carpenter bees for decades. Every frame we build meets the Knox County deck standard and then some.
How it goes
Holes dug and poured to Knox County spec, post bases set, inspector signs off before a single joist goes up.
Ground-contact joists on galvanized hangers, flashed ledger, butyl tape on every joist top, then the framing inspection.
Hidden-clip decking with a picture-frame border, aluminum rail and stairs, final inspection, and a walkthrough with you.
Where we work
Based in Knoxville, we build anywhere within about 35 minutes of downtown, including lake lots on Fort Loudoun, Tellico, Melton Hill, and Norris. Not sure if you’re in range? Call and ask.
Questions

Most composite decks in Knox County run $30 to $60 per square foot installed, depending on the board line, railing, and stairs. A common 16 by 20 foot deck with aluminum railing typically lands between $13,500 and $19,000. Resurfacing an existing sound frame with new composite boards costs less. We quote a firm price after a free on-site visit.
Almost always, yes. Both the City of Knoxville and Knox County build to the 2018 International Residential Code, and any deck attached to the house needs a building permit with footing, framing, and final inspections. Only a freestanding deck under 200 square feet and no more than 30 inches above grade is exempt. We prepare the drawings, pull the permit, and meet the inspector.
Composite. Knoxville gets about 50 inches of rain a year, summer humidity in the 70s, and roughly 50 freeze-thaw cycles each winter, which is why treated pine here grays, checks, and needs restaining every two or three years. Capped composite boards from Trex, TimberTech, and Fiberon do not rot, splinter, or feed carpenter bees, and carry 25 to 50 year fade and stain warranties.
From first visit to finished deck, plan on 6 to 10 weeks. Design and the permit usually take 2 to 3 weeks, and the build itself is 1 to 2 weeks on site: footings and inspection, framing and inspection, decking, then railing, stairs, and the final inspection.
Often, yes. If the posts, beams, and joists are dry, straight, and free of rot, we strip the old boards, add joist tape and any blocking the composite needs, and lay new boards with hidden fasteners. If the frame has failed we will tell you honestly and quote a full rebuild instead.
Darker composite boards do run warmer than wood in direct sun, so on a west-facing Knoxville deck we steer you toward lighter colors, heat-mitigating lines like TimberTech Advanced PVC, or a covered section. Every color option is shown on real sample boards at your estimate.
One free visit, one firm number, no pressure. Most Knoxville homeowners have a quote in hand within 48 hours of the walkthrough.
